After we got to our Hotel I was able to enjoy a Steak N Shake, it's been years since I've had one, and IT WAS GREAT. Had the Chicken Fingers with a Side by side Chocolate Banana shake.
On Thursday we went to check out St. Louis and did trips to the Budwiser Factory, and did a tour, and I'm trying to remember the other place we went but damnit, I can't. I'll need to check my phone, since I took pictures.
ALLRIGHT, now I remember that we went in to the Famous Arch before the Beer factory, and it was crazy. They have you with 4 other people go into a very small ball capsule thing, it's not for big, or tall people because you'll feel crammed in there. Getting up to the top was pretty scary since you can see your self going up, but not outside the arch, not until you reach the top, so I felt like a Final Destinatio was going to happen. I get those a lot, god damn you movies.
We reach the top, and I feel a little uneasy, I have a bit of a scare when it comes to heights, but the view was fantastic, you can see mose of the city from them, and then on the back side you can see a lot of the area bordeline to St. louis and Illinois. So, we went back down, and it went faster then coming up. A very cool place overall, though for some reason I had thought we went on an escalator to the top then went down.
On Friday we went to the opening of Fanfast, which we've been going to every so often, and the line wasn't bad getting in, even if we wanted to get in the moment of opening. We did a good ammount of looking, my sister was looking for an All Stars shirt of Joe Mauer, but all they ever sell for American League is players from the New York Yankees, and Boston Red sox, both teams I don't care for. My dad got a few items for himself, which isn't a surprise, he can find anything anywhere Baseball related. So far on the Trip I never found anything to get, but I didn't mind.
Overall it felt smaller then the ones we've been too before, and while the fanfest was a place to go to celebrate Baseball, and the best players in the game, there's wasn't a lot for other teams besides St. Louis' own Cardinals.
Once we were done with that we also checked out a Mall further down the town, crazy mall. They have a Racing track outside, and I think Inside for Go Kart racing, they also had a Sanrio store too, and my sister checked it out and told me there were Badtz Maru stuff there, to my surprise. I was able to get a new Bag for carrying stuff, and a new Wallet!!! Because the one I had currently needed to be replaced ASAP. It's a BIG wallet, and takes up most of my pocket space, which is great.
There were other stores, like a nice little Fantasy store, with Comic books, Figurines and things for D&D and the like, there was even a Paul Blart there, riding on a Segway. Hilarious.
Saturday was a relax day and we head on over to the St. Louis zoo, because my family learned there's a Penguin habitat there, and you should know by now that I love Penguins. You have to be there to see how great it was, the Penguins were so close you could touch them, and while there wasn't a sign that said otherwise I was respectful and kept my hands to my phone. You were even close to get splashed by them. Plu sI melt everytime I see them wag their tails.
It was a pretty big Zoo, but I feel that I've been to bigger ones before, I think the Kanas city zoo. Also it claimed to be the Number 1 zoo in the Country, I didn't feel the same. Maybe for Penguins, but then it had to compete with my experiance with Chicago's zoo, which can be read on my other Journal, and really, why haven't you? Do you hate me now?
It was a hot day, and my Sister and I were really feeling it, I blame us being fat. We were haveing a tough time continuing, but we did it, and checked out Grants farm. Which was HUGE, they said it took a day just to get from the farm itself to the House where I heard the president lived it, or the Anheuser Busch family. We didn't stay long, since it was like a Zoo in of it self, the tram was cool and informative, and I met the most adorable little goat. I didn't want to stop petting it, and I bet the goat was sad when I did. Poor little guy.
Sunday rolled by and we were on our way to the Cardinals' stadium, Busch Stadium, really big but looked very retro, much more different then what the Twins are getting in 2010. We had tickets for Standing room only, but we cheated and took some seats close to the action and watched the Futures game, and Legends and Celebrity Soft ball game. That is until Mother Nature gave us the Rain delay of our lifes right when the game started.
It went on for 3 hours, I'm not joking. I was talking to my friend in Wisconson about it, and showing him photos, it was crazy. It did let up at around 4, but the game didn't continue until around 5. So it was pretty close call to seeing the Soft ball game, they had to take out two innings to keep it from being cancelled. I wasn't too excited about the Futures game, since all it was were Minor league players who are going into the Majors representing the World, and USA.
The Soft ball game was much better, and very enjoyable. Though I was rooting for the American league side to win, they didn't, but I give credit to the National league folks they did better. Good times all around, and I love Rain BTW.
Monday was the real deal for me. The Home Run Derby Baby. Where 8 of the best sluggers in the nation compete to see who is the best. Though two contestants from last year. Twins own Justin Morneau, who won last year, and Texas Rangers' Josh Hamilton, who was expected to win, had to step down. So Joe Mauer and Nelson Cruz, I assume on him, had to replace them. All is well. Except I was rooting for my boy Prince Fielder of the Milwuakee Brewers. Since we have the same Birthday.
Joe did pretty well, tying for 4th place with Fan favorite and my skepitcal target, Albert Pujols and Calos Pena of the Tamba bay rays, but, he failed to get a single home run in the tie breaker and was done. While Prince on the other hand tied for first in the first round at 11 home runs, with Nelson Cruz, and made it to round 2.
Round 2 had the top 4 from round 1 compete for the top 2 spots for the final rounds. Round 2 took the number of runs the 4 got before, and they could add on to it in this round. Cardinals favorite Albert went up first with 5 runs staring in, and made it too 11. I was doing everything I could to jinx him so he wouldn't win, so I had a few fans trying to stop me.
Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies was second to go with 7 HR to work with, he manged to to get up to 15 at the end, giving him a good possibility of a final round spot. Incomes Cruz with his 11 runs, and he manged to hang in, and get 16 runs and ensured a spot in the Finals.
Prince steps here and I was on the edge of my seat, cheering as loud as I could, loudest I've ever been at a ball game, it was close but Prince topped them all with 17 runs. Which put him and Cruz in the Finals.
The Finals started, and Prince and Cruz had to start over and try to get the most home runs, starting at zero. Cruz did well, and managed 5 runs. It was the Final go for Prince, he had to get 6 runs to rin the Derby, and I was the only person around, I think, wearing a Brewers Prince shirt the whole time, and cheering him.
It was a nail biter but Prince pulled it off and got 6 runs, and won it all. I was screaming for joy, and couldn't stop. A cameraman saw me and filmed me with my shirt. I was happy as can be since it was 2 years in a row my favorite players won the Home Run Derby, I didn't think it was Possible. Great time to be a Prince Fielder fan
So that's all that happened to me, during that week of July 8 to July 14, great week. Met a lot of friends of my dad he knows from the Hall of fame, and a sweet gal who played Womens Baseball during the 40s and 50s.
All Tuesday was dedicated to driving.
